Vision planning within multi-disciplinary teams........... public participation............ detail design............ contract management........... or direct to committees
We recognise the real need to provide for schools, enlivening barren tarmacadam and rethinking how school grounds can be reorganised to satisfy the full needs of the growing child- mental, emotional, physical and spiritual development within the context of the curriculum, supporting citizenship and healthy living initiatives. Jenny is a qualified and experienced teacher of main stream and physically handicapped pupils and recognises the aspirations and constraints of teachers.
J.E.A. grew out of supporting small projects and continues to offer services direct to individual schools, councils and developer/ professional teams. Much of her work is as a result of recommendation or commissioning by Learning through Landscapes, charitable trust.
Central Sussex College
A major new-build for the college in Crawley: J.E.A. has designed all external hard works including car parking, pedestrian access, courtyards which include facilities for disabiities, and planting schemes.
Wivelsfield Primary School
Public sector, mainstream
New build school: Working in a team within a framework agreement for East Sussex County Council, the services included masterplan for the planning application, earthworks and details for both hardworks and planting: -currently being planted and running with 1 year maintenance. Further designing for future vision and projects now also underway with the school direct.
The scheme was designed to allow for celebratory events. Images include photos of the opening ceremony, meadow, and ideas board for the school to continue working with volunteers on the grounds, once the construction team had completed their work.
The Causeway School
Secondary School
Design work was carried out over many years as each extension was built, to become at the time the largest secondary school in East Sussex. Jenny Exley worked initially on the scheme when in house with Owen Williams Consultants and later when the practice was established. Its landscape boundary treatment also was included within the Civic Trust Award.
Silverdale Primary School, St Leonards
Public sector, mainstream
Planting scheme, specification and contract run under JEA, including maintenance, following hard landscape layout and consultancy for details provided when in house with Owen Williams Consultants for East Sussex County Council.
Chantry Community School
Primary School
Celebration and enjoyment are important and vital elements of J.E.A. designs. Chantry Community School needed to rethink their small playground. We brought in contractors to remove the out of date planters, opening up the available space and created a brick amphitheatre, providing a stage for outdoor theatre and much needed seating.
The Lindfield School, Eastbourne (Special Needs)
J.E.A. provided the full design service for hard and soft landscape, working with the Architect and Engineers, to provide for special needs. Autism required special care and we commissioned a sculptor to create a spiral water stone.
Battle Abbey School, Battle
Public school
JEA provided designs for an amphitheatre and planting scheme to compliment the new Arts Centre.
Glyne Gap School & Nursery, Bexhill (Special Needs)
We were commissioned over several phases to create a Wild Garden for rhumpus play, and a playground for a new build nursery.
